Do we have a right to pursue happiness as was written in our Declaration of Independence?
…they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Just a thought brought up by my wife.
God has given us liberty and rights, two very different things. Liberty being an unfettered freedom resultant from His gift of freewill. Rights being more ‘directional’ I suppose.
There is no right to kill or lie or commit any immoral action. While there remains a liberty to do any of that.
God will not ‘strike you down’ if you sin. He reserves judgement for the end of time and the beginning of eternity for each and every one.
But while here on earth, the right we have is to glorify Him.
Perhaps a right is a combination of an obligation and a freedom? Maybe a purpose and a right are similar?
